Our Moorhead team responds to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Clay County. We typically arrive within four hours of your call for help. Severe weather is no stranger to Moorhead, Minnesota. During the first week of April, the National Weather Service held Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. Each day was devoted to a different preparedness topic, including statewide tornado drills.
Daily topics:
- Monday – Alerts, and Warnings
- Tuesday – Severe Thunderstorms and Lightning
- Wednesday – Floods
- Thursday – Tornadoes
- Friday – Excessive Heat
Statewide tornado drills were held using outdoor sirens in some communities for the exercises, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radios were activated using test wording. Tornadoes can touch down rapidly with little advanced warning. According to the NOAA, tornado warnings are issued thirteen minutes (on average) before the storm hits.
Tornado Drills
During a tornado drill at work and school, you will proceed to your tornado shelter location quickly and calmly. Stay away from windows and do not go to large open rooms such as cafeterias, gymnasiums, or auditoriums. If you are outside, seek shelter inside a sturdy building if a tornado is approaching.
