Fire Hazards During the Winter

We picked up these tips for fire safety from the NFPA:

• Keep trees watered – dried-out trees can burn up in under a minute
• Place candles on stable surfaces, well away from flammable objects (greenery, paper or cloth decorations, curtains, furniture, etc.)
• Don’t use electrical cords that are frayed, crimped, or broken
• Turn off decorative lights when you aren’t at home
• Don’t leave candles unattended
• Pay attention to the cooking – we know you’re busy, but we also know that most fires start in the kitchen
• Don’t place flammable decorations near the stove or other heat sources
