• Tornado outbreaks are common in Minnesota. They last from 6 to 12 hours and feature multiple tornadoes across the state.
• The largest outbreak in Minnesota was 48 tornadoes on June 17, 2010.
• On October 20, 2020 (not long ago!) we had a record snowfall for autumn: 6 to 9 inches across parts of the state.
• This past July was great (by which we mean, “frightening” and “miserable”) when we set records for heat, rain, number of storms, intensity of rainstorms, a hailstorm, thunderstorms, and tornadoes (one deadly).
• Heavy snow and ice storms in April reliably freak out people from other states.
• Ten years ago, we had record heat in May. We’re divided at SERVPRO of Moorhead over whether to include the detail that it was 88 degrees F because it makes people from the southern states cry, as 88 isn’t “record heat” except during winter.
• 2013 was our favorite winter. We started with the warmest winter in our state’s record, then glided into the snowiest, iciest, coldest, and longest-lasting winter. Awesome!
• We have thunder blizzards! No one here knew they were unusual until a friend in Pittsburgh, PA reported having been in one thunder blizzard.
• Last summer, we had tornadoes and a waterspout (which is a tornado over water instead of over land) in the middle of August.
